The data are used as a basis for the estimates drawn up in the Advisory Board on Municipal Economy and Administration concerning development of municipal finances and for the negotiations between the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities and state authorities about the state budget spending limits. The data are also necessary for compiling national accounts and for calculations concerning municipal finances made for the European Union.
