The price inquiry for cost indices requests for prices of commodities, purchased products and services related to the production of the services of road transport of goods, bus and motor-coach traffic, taxi and ambulance transport and rail transport, and of civil engineering works, earth moving and forest machinery contracts. Apart from the Cost Index of Civil Engeering Works, the statistics are subject to charge.
Data on commodity prices collected for other indices or obtained with own price inquiries are utilised in the compilation of the cost indices. The number of data suppliers is around 160 and the volume of data per data supplier varies. Data on the price of a specified commodity is inquired from at least three data suppliers. If the number of sellers is lower or the product is of little importance, substitute price data are used.The enterprises provide the data on a voluntary basis. Statistics Finland treats the data as confidential in the same way as the Statistics Act obliges it to treat data on enterprises under the obligation to supply data. The data are released as index point figures calculated from a large volume of price data. Prices of individual products or price behaviour of individual enterprises cannot be identified from the statistics.The data can be supplied to Statistics Finland by telephone, telefax or email.Enterprises/service providers within the scope of the topic/operating area of the cost index concerned.
