Instructions for Creating Manuscripts of Invited and Contributed Papers
These instructions include five Attachments:
- General Instructions.
- Form for Submission.
- Instructions for Creating Manuscripts 1 (Instructions
for Creating Manuscripts by using a Text Editor).
- Instructions for Creating Manuscripts 2 (Instructions
for Creating Manuscripts by using a Typewriter).
- Two-page Model for the Manuscripts.
1. General Instructions
Introduction
The Proceedings, i.e. the Invited and Contributed Papers, of the 52nd
Session of The International Statistical Institute will be published in The
Bulletin of the International Statistical Institute. The Proceedings will
be published in print, as a CD-ROM and on the Internet.
The paper may be written in any of the working languages of the ISI, i.e. English
or French. The maximum length of an Invited Paper is 4 pages. The maximum length
of a Contributed Paper is 2 pages. The paper written in English must have a
summary in French, and vice versa.
You are encouraged to submit your paper by e-mail. However, the manuscripts
reproduced or typewritten on the special composition sheets enclosed in this
package are also accepted.
Please note that you can submit your paper by using an electronic form on
the homepage of the Session.
There are four alternatives to create and submit the manuscripts of the papers
for the Proceedings:
(i) Using Microsoft Word or WordPerfect and submitting the paper by using
e-mail.
- The manuscript of the paper is created by using Microsoft Word or WordPerfect.
- The text is saved in a Microsoft Word or WordPerfect file.
- The paper is submitted to the NOC by e-mail.
Please note that PS or PDF files are also accepted.
(ii) Using any other text editor and submitting the paper by using e-mail.
- The manuscript of the paper is created by using any text editor.
- The text is saved in a PS or PDF file.
- The paper is submitted to the NOC by e-mail.
Please note that the users of some form of TeX (e.g. LaTeX, AMS-TeX, etc.)
must save the text in a PS or PDF file. No forms of TeX files can be accepted.
(iii) Using any text editor and submitting the paper by mail.
- The manuscript of the paper is created by using any text editor.
- The text is reproduced on the special composition sheets enclosed in this
package by using a good-quality laser or ink-jet printer.
- The paper is submitted to the NOC by mail.
Comments to (i) - (iii):
- The authors should follow the instructions in Attachment 2 as closely as
possible, see also the Model for the Manuscripts.
- File formats other than Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, PS and PDF cannot be
accepted.
- All submitted material (text, tables, graphs and figures) must
be compiled in one file.
- Ready-made style sheets or templates for Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and
LaTeX can be downloaded from the Instructions for Creating
Manuscripts 1.
- The author should submit a printed version, reproduced by using a good-quality
laser or ink-jet printer, of his/her manuscript to the NOC. Only then can
the NOC guarantee that the manuscript will be processed for publication.
(iv) Using a typewriter and submitting the paper by mail.
- The manuscript of the paper is created by typewriting it directly on the
special composition sheets enclosed in this package.
- The paper is submitted to the NOC by mail.
Comments to (iv):
- The author should follow the instructions in Attachment 3 as closely as
possible, see also the Model for the Manuscripts.
- The manuscripts of the papers are not excluded from the electronic publications,
since they are converted into electronic form by scanning. To facilitate
the conversion process the authors are requested to take great care in creating
the original.
The Length of Manuscripts
The maximum length of Invited Papers is 4 pages. The maximum length of Contributed
Papers is 2 pages. Longer manuscripts cannot be published.
Formatting
The NOC will not edit the manuscripts - the manuscripts are published exactly
in the form created by the authors. Therefore the authors should format the
manuscripts according to the instructions given in Attachment 2 or 3; see also
the Model for Manuscripts
If Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or LaTeX is used for the preparation of
manuscripts, ready-made style sheets or templates can be downloaded from the
Instructions for Creating Manuscripts 1.
Deadline
The deadline for the submission of manuscripts is April 10, 1999.

All manuscripts submitted to the NOC by e-mail should be directed to CONGREX
/ Blue & White Conferences Oy, which is the official congress office of
the 52nd ISI Session.
Important: You should direct your paper to CONGREX by using an electronic
form.
Mail
All manuscript submitted to the NOC by mail should be directed to CONGREX /
