The Board of Statistics Finland has made the following appointments for a term ending on 31 August 2006:
Jarmo Hyrkkö, Master of Social Sciences, was appointed Deputy Director General starting from 1 September 2001. He will follow in this position Statistics Finland's new Director General Heli Jeskanen-Sundström. At the moment Mr Hyrkkö is the Director of Statistics Finland's Prices and Wages unit. The Deputy Director General acts as deputy for the Director General and heads the Director General's Secretariat, which is the preparation and development unit of Statistics Finland's strategic management.
Jussi Simpura, Doctor of Social Sciences, was appointed Director of Social Statistics from 1 October 2001. Before joining Statistics Finland, he most recently served as Research Professor of the Alcohol and Drug Research unit at the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health (STAKES). Markus Jäntti, Doctor of Social Sciences and Professor of Economics at the University of Tampere, was appointed Director of Research from 1 October 2001.
