Brisk growth of total output continued in November

The volume of total output was 7.1 per cent greater in November 2000 than in November 1999. In October, output grew by 8.2 per cent from the previous year. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that, apart from agriculture and forestry, output went up in all main industries of the national economy in November.

Growth of output in manufacturing continued to be boosted by the manufacture of electrical goods, where output increased by 60.0 per cent in the year to November. Over the same time period, output in all manufacturing as calculated by per working day grew by 17.3 per cent.

In trade, output went up by 3.2 per cent and in transport by 2.9 per cent from twelve months back. Output also increased in construction and was 3.0 per cent up on November 1999. In agriculture and forestry output contracted by 1.2 per cent, chiefly due to fallen meat production. In other services and public services output went up by 2.0 per cent.

The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on thirteen monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
