The number of crimes recorded by the police in 2006 decreased by a total of three per cent from the year before. The Yearbook of Justice Statistics published by Statistics Finland reports, for instance, that the number of burglaries was down by 19 per cent from the previous year. By contrast, accounting and debtor offences increased by six per cent, which as much as doubles their number when compared with the year 1991.
The number of violent crimes changed very little from the year before. One in four assaults is committed in a private dwelling, while the corresponding ratio for offences against life is two in three. This means that the majority of murders, manslaughters and homicides take place in private dwellings.
The Yearbook of Justice Statistics 2007 describes crime and the realisation of legal protection in Finland in 2006. The statistics on crime describe i.a. crimes recorded by the police, prisoners and punishments.
In addition, the publication offers an overview of the administration of justice by Finnish courts of justice. The statistics on the administration of justice describe e.g. the civil cases concluded by courts of first instance. The publication includes summaries and tables on contents in both Swedish and English.
