Finland ranks first among the Nordic countries in tertiary level education

Of all Nordic countries, Finland has the highest number of students in tertiary level education. Nearly one-fifth of Finns aged 20 to 39 study at the tertiary level, while the corresponding share in the other Nordic countries is only about 15 per cent. Finland has also relatively more students in the fields of natural sciences, information technology and engineering than the other Nordic countries. These data derive from the recently published Nordic Statistical Yearbook 2007.

The Nordic Statistical Yearbook is a 349-page information package which contains statistical comparison data on e.g. environment, population, education, labour market, industry structure and economy. The statistics cover the five Nordic countries as well as the autonomous territories of the Åland Islands, the Faroe Islands and Greenland.

In addition to figures and tables, the Yearbook contains background information on different topics. The data are available both in Swedish and in English. The Yearbook includes a CD which contains all the tables of the Yearbook, longer time series as well as other data not included in the printed publication.

The price of the Yearbook published by the Nordic Council of Ministers is EUR 50. The Yearbook can be ordered from Statistics Finland's Sales Service tel. +358 9 1734 2011, email: sales@stat.fi
