The household satellite account produced jointly by the National Consumer Research Centre and Statistics Finland describes the volume, type and monetary value of goods and services produced by households for their own use. This can be such as preparation of meals for one's family or own account house building. The work for achieving output is unpaid and remains mostly outside GDP in national accounts. National accounts extended by household production provide a more versatile picture of the development of the economy than the core accounts.
According to the results, the value of households' total output was EUR 81.6 billion in 2001. Its gross value added was EUR 62.8 billion, and 13 per cent of that was included in national accounts. GDP grows by 40 per cent and households' consumption by nearly 60 per cent when the production excluded from national accounts is counted in.
